Shifting Gears: UE Bike Race Moved to Friday Due to Weather

EVANSVILLE, IN – In a last-minute tactical adjustment, the University of Evansville has announced that the 65th Annual Bike Race has been rescheduled. To avoid incoming weather conditions forecast for Saturday, the high-ctane tradition will now take place, Friday, April 17, 2026.

The venue remains the same—the iconic Student Lot H—but the shift to a Friday afternoon and evening schedule promises a unique under-the-lights atmosphere for the final laps.

Updated Race Schedule

Organizers have coordinated a quick turnaround to ensure the safety of the riders and the best possible experience for spectators. The new times are as follows:

Event Start Time Date
Women’s Race 3:30 PM Friday, April 17
Men’s Race 6:00 PM Friday, April 17

A Legacy of Resilience

The race has survived more than just tight turns and flat tires over its 65-year history. Originally founded in 1961, the event has weathered everything from mechanical failures to the pandemic restrictions of 2020-2021. This weekend’s shift to Friday is just another example of the adaptability that keeps this campus tradition alive.

“It’s more than just a race; it’s a family affair,” noted one senior competitor. “For many of us, especially those in Greek Life or student orgs, this is the highlight of the spring semester. We’re ready to go, Friday or Saturday.”

Behind the Tradition

Managed by the University’s Fitness Center, the UE Bike Race is modeled after the spirit of famous “Little 500” at Indiana University but carries a uniquely local Evansville energy. Despite the schedule change, spectators can still expect a festival-like environment:

  • Student Support: Massive cheering sections for campus organizations and Greek houses.

  • The Lot H Circuit: A technical, asphalt course that tests endurance and teamwork.

  • Community Spirit: Food, music, and the electric energy of the UE student body.

Good luck to all the teams competing! Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or a first-time spectator, come out to Lot H on Friday to witness one of UE’s greatest traditions in action.
