Explore Evansville hosting free community celebration to kick off historic sports tourism month
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Explore Evansville is hosting a free public celebration Friday to kick off what officials say will be one of the busiest and most economically impactful months for sports tourism in the city’s history.
The event will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Evansville Sports Complex, located at Deaconess Sports Park (4300 Heckel Rd, Evansville, IN 47725). The evening will feature food trucks, family-friendly activities, and a fireworks display.
The community celebration coincides with the arrival of thousands of youth athletes, coaches, and families traveling to Evansville for two major national sporting events happening simultaneously at the complex.
More than 130 regional youth baseball teams will compete in the Banana Extravaganza Baseball Tournament at Deaconess Sports Park. Meanwhile, the neighboring Goebel Soccer Complex will host the S3DA Eastern Outdoor Target National Championship, a premier outdoor youth archery competition drawing athletes from across the nation.
“July showcases the incredible impact sports tourism has on our community,” said Tom White, President and CEO of Explore Evansville. “From youth baseball and archery to elite tennis, football, softball, and swimming, these events create unforgettable experiences for athletes and families while delivering millions of dollars in economic impact for our local businesses.”
White credited partnerships between event organizers, facilities, volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders for making the busy month possible.
Organizers encourage local residents to attend the free festivities to help welcome the visitors. More information about local tourism initiatives can be found at ExploreEvansville.com.
